WINDSURFING/KITESURFING

Warm waters, constant winds and few waves characterize the beautiful El Yaque beach.  Our windsurf station is Vela, right in front of the beach, and is equipped with the most sophisticated tables (F2 and JP) and sails (Neil Pryde). 
About 30 palm trees provide just enough shade for you to enjoy a tropical cocktail on our beach bar and enjoy the sport life happening in the water.

El Yaque, with its fine sand is about 1 km long.  It is ideal for beginners, that want to learn beachstart, waterstart or other maneuvers.  The first 300 meters of the shore has low waters, from 1 to 1.5 meters.  The wind blows side shore to the left.  For more advanced and expert surfers the days with strong winds create waves of 1 to 1.5 meters, ideal for jumping or kite surfing.

The wind blows lightly in the morning, ideal for beginners, but around noon gets stronger until it gets the strongest between 2 and 5 pm, ideal for the advanced surfers.  Between October and January and June and July the most used sails are between 5 and 7 meters.  While during February, March, April and May one normally uses 3,5 to 5,5 meters. 

During May generally the temperature is around 30 C, easily allowing the use of shorts or lycra suit.  It is important to use sun filters with factors of 20 to 30 to prevent burns due to the intense sun rays.  The island is only 11 degrees north of the equator.
